FALL TURKEY SHOOT RESULTS:

November 24, 2015: The following were winners at the final Fall turkey shoot of the Ellwood/Wampum Rod & Gun Club - William Shuttleworth, Don Minteer, Damon Bumgardner, Howard Allison, Chuck Bingle, Doug Russell, Spencer Renner and Anna Zilka. Mike Rollins & Patrick McCullough were double winners. Each winner had their choice of a turkey, ham or cash prize. These shoots are open to the public, but youth shooters MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Shooters are to bring their own ear protection.

MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES - July 13, 2015:

President Jack Hunter called the monthly meeting to order by leading the 16 officers/directors and 5 additional members in the Pledge of Allegiance. Recording Secretary, Janice Greathouse, read the monthly minutes from June 8, 2015 which were approved by the members who were present. At the last Board of Directors' meeting, Carol Dambach and Beverly Capezio were appointed to purchase prizes for our club to donate for the Lawrence County Youth Field Day to be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Mahoning Sportsman's Club. They did not spend all of the money and returned with 7 fishing poles from O'Donnell's Sporting Goods store. Ray Rava announced that the trap shoot last week had 5 squads shooting and they are "holding their own". This coming Wednesday (July15th) and Thursday (July 16th) our club will host a Hunter/Trapper Education class beginning at 6:00 P.M. each evening. Paul Aiken asked those present at this evening's meeting to help take down the tables and set up the chairs needed for the class. He also needs someone to help in the kitchen both nights to sell pop & candy. Paul also reported that he is assisting the Moraine Trails Council Boy Scouts earn their "Archery" badge. Treasurer, Ray Beadling, reported that he ordered a "tank full" of heating oil from Reed's Oil in New Castle which is cheaper he said than asking for a certain amount of oil. The #1 blend of 274.7 gallons cost the club $704 to fill the tank. The quote that Tim Kelly had received previously was $2.42 @ gallon. The club's family picnic will be held on Sunday, August 9th from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M. Bob Horton said that he planned on power washing the clubhouse, especially the side facing the Ted Garda NRA Learning Center, because of the mold that is on the siding. LeRoy Houk is in charge of getting corn on the cob for the picnic. Club members are asked to meet at 11:00 A.M. the morning of the picnic to shuck the corn. Bob Horton suggested co-ordinating the kitchen items at the next board of directors' meeting on July 27th. Bill Boots said that his Cost Co. card could be used to make additional food purchases if needed. Ray Rava presented Jerry Sadler and Marc Wright as prospective members. The board of directors who were present voted to accept them for membership. Ray Rava made a motion to adjourn the meeting with a second by Ray Beadling. The meeting was adjourned at 8:08 P.M. The winner of the evening's door prize was Jack Hunter.

MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES - June 8, 2015:

The monthly meeting was called to order by President Jack Hunter who lead the 39 members present in the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes from the last regular meeting on May 11, 2015 were read by Recording Secretary, Janice Greathouse, and approved by those members who were present. Ray Rava reported on the Tuesday night trap shoots. He said that last Tuesday there were 6 squads which shot and 15 cases were used so far. 30 cases have yet to be received from Tim Kelly. Tim and John Wilmes have been trying to cut the grass between all of the recent rain storms. LeRoy Houk cleaned the outdoor range and mowed the upper level. He also found a newborn fawn that he had to mow around. Bob Horton laughingly said he couldn't figure out who would have left the large area of tall grass uncut or why. (The mystery has been solved!) Bob also said that he has located a new palet source for use on the outdoor range. Bill Ely finished the electrical work. The outside lights will no longer remain on a dusk to dawn timer, they will shut off after 3 hours. Jack Hunter sponsored a new club member, Corporal Josh Shimko, who is a full-time police officer with Cranberry Twp. He is also a certified range officer and is willing to oversee any club events where shooting is involved. If he needs to take any additional courses through the N.R.A., he is willing to do that as well. The hayfield beside the club property will be cut by Tom Kelly as has been done in previous years. Tim Kelly will schedule the 2016 Annual Banquet for the club with the Wurtemburg/Perry V.F.D. as soon as they determine when their Lenten fish fry dinners will be held. Paul Aiken, N.R.A. Executive Officer, reminded the members that the Friends of the N.R.A. Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 and for Tim to not schedule our club banquet on that date. Dick Bayer said that during the Lawrence County Council meeting last month, Tony Rich announced that $15 million is available for the Hereford Manor Dam project and hopefully the local sportsmen will be able to raise $150,000 to assist with the reconstruction. Janice Greathouse gave a report on the June raffle ticket winners so far ($50 @ day for each number) - the June 2nd winner (#763) was Ed McAllister who bought the ticket himself and the June 3rd winner (#274) was Gerald O'Donnell whose ticket was sold by Bob Horton. All sellers of winning tickets for the whole month of June will have their names put into a drawing which will be held at the next regular monthly meeting on July 13, 2015. The next Board of Directors' meeting will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Ray Rava with a second by Ray Beadling. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 P.M.

MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES - May 11, 2015:

President Jack Hunter called the 24 members present to order by leading them in the Pledge of Allegiance. Recording Secretary, Janice Greathouse, read the April 13, 2015 minutes which were approved by those present. She also reminded everyone that all money and ticket stubs from the June raffle ticket sale are due next Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Board of Directors' meeting (held one week early because of the Memorial Day holiday). Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dave Shaffer, Carl Jaskolka, Ray Rava, Scott Bathurst, Dave Byler and Jack Hunter worked with the concrete for the trap shoot area. Ray Rava said that 60 additional cases of birds are needed. There will be another work session this Wednesday at 5:00 P.M. Dick Bayer asked about having any "petty cash" available for the kitchen funds with a possible second checking account. Discussion was held on this topic with various pros and cons. Bill Boots made a motion that all of the 50/50 money start going back to the kitchen funds since we now have someone in the kitchen full time again. Bill Boots said there is a restriction on timbering due to the Indiana bats. The wood needs to be available for insects for the bats to eat. Bob Horton said there is an Ash tree over the club's garage. Bob introduced Jeff Work Jr. to cut the tree. He would also like to become a club member. Bob made a motion to have Jeff do the trimming because of its location. Bob will also rebar for the railroad ties in front of the clubhouse. Members Kristen Smock presented Jamie Cochran for membership and Bob Horton presented Rev. Matt Bupp. Both were accepted as new club members by the officers and directors of the club who were present at the meeting. Carl Custozzo was the winner of the evening's door prize. Ray Rava made a motion to adjourn the meeting with a second by John Wilmes. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.

Trap Shoots - Trap shoots will begin on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. and continue each Tuesday through August 25, 2015. These shoots are open to the public and participants are encouraged to wear ear protection. Shooters must provide their own box of 25 shells for each round they plan on shooting.

SPRING TURKEY SHOOT results - April 14, 2015:

The following participants were winners at the final spring turkey shoot that was held at the Ellwood/Wampum Rod & Gun Club on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 beginning at 6:30 P.M.: Brian Nofsker, Shane Price, Doug Russell, Frank Nofsker, Charles Bingle, Dave Byler and Larry Baker. Clancy Barr was a double winner. The winner of the special shoot that was held specifically for youth was won by Damon Bumgardner. Winners had their choice of a turkey, ham or cash prize. MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES - April 13, 2015:

President Jack Hunter called the monthly meeting to order by leading the 26 members who were present in the Pledge of Allegiance. Last month's minutes were read by Recording Secretary, Janice Greathouse, and approved by the members who were present. Dick Bayer reported that the new PA Fish & Boat Commissioner WCO, Jon Kay, announced at last month's Lawrence County Council meeting that the mentored Youth Field Day was to be held April 11, 2015. Youth under age 16 are eligible providing they possess a permit. The limit of trout is 2 @ person, including the adult. Life jackets must be worn by all when using any watercraft 16 feet & under, kayaks and canoes until April 30th. The fine for a violation will cost $108.50. "Fish for Free Days" this year will be Memorial Day and Independence Day. The proposed H.B. 374 requires reporting harvested big game within 24 hours. Dick Bayer said this isn't very practical because of a lack of computers at a camp and no cell phone reception available in certain remote areas. This would require cutting hunting trips short for those who plan on staying at a camp for the week/weekend. The bear harvest for 2014 was the 7th largest on record. Online Hunter Safety courses are available for those who are 16 years & older for a cost of $19.50. Youth Field Day will be held August 1, 2015 at the Mahoning Sportsmen's Club this year. The next Lawrence County Council meeting will be held at Laurel High School at 8:00 P.M. on April 16, 2015. Carl Custozzo voiced his opinion about all of the donations that we make either as a club or personally. We need to be sensitive to the local fire departments, the Wampum Christmas Parade and the Laurel Conservation Club. He said we are too frugal with our money at the club. We no longer have donations coming in from various organizations. Dick Bayer will contact Bob Miles about the trout stocking for our club's Youth Fishing Day on Saturday, April 25, 2015 beginning at 8:00 A.M. Dick also mentioned about getting a new steel frame for the front door. Carl Custozzo expressed his remorse over retiring from the club's turkey shoots because of the multiple issues that have risen recently. He pointed out that the participants are our "customers". Ray Rava asked the Recording Secretary, Janice Greathouse, to officially send a "thank you" note to Jaret Gibbon's office in appreciation of the new flag which was donated. Paul Aiken announced that our club will have a Hunter/Trapper Education class on July 15 (Wed.) and 16 (Thurs.), 2015 - BOTH classes must be attended for certification. Dallas Parr was the winner of the evening's door prize. Ray Beadling made a motion to adjourn the meeting with a second by Ray Rava. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 P.M.

Anyone wanting to use a GPS unit to locate the clubhouse should use the physical address of 2406 Wampum Road, Wampum, PA 16157. Shoots will continue to be held each Tuesday at 6:30 P.M. through April 14, 2015. Sign-ups begin promptly at 6:00 P.M.

Club members who need to renew their membership for 2015 have the opportunity to do so at the clubhouse on Saturday, March 28 from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. and Sunday, March 29

from 1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. The new rifle range gate keys will be exchanged at this time, too. The new locks will be changed effective April 1, 2015. When club members are renewing their memberships, they MUST bring their current N.R.A. membership card.

All memberships will be considered "lapsed" after March 31, 2015 and will be charged an additional $10 fee.

President Jack Hunter called the monthly meeting to order by leading those 32 members present in the Pledge of Allegiance. Recording Secretary, Janice Greathouse, read the minutes from the February 9, 2015 meeting, which were approved by those present. Dick Bayer reported on several House Bills that are being considered: H.B. 223 would permit the use of .223 caliber and smaller semi-automatice rifles to hunt coyote, fox and woodchuck. H.B. 263 would permit the use of air rifles for hunting. H.B. 374 would require reporting harvested big game within 24 hours. A tree stand tagging I.D. system is being considered. Also being considered is a requirement that youth under the age of 7 would use the adult license holder's tags for turkey and deer. The PA deer harvest was down 14%. August 1, 2015 is the date for the Lawrence Co. Youth Field Day at the Mahoning Sportsman's Club. March 25, 2015 is when the Coachman's Club will sponsor a Utah Permit class beginning at 6:00 P.M. A Hunter/Trapper Education class will be held at the Coachman's Club on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. The Shenango V.F.D. Hall has been reserved for next year's "Draw Down" Dinner on January 30, 2016. Trout stocking is being delayed. April 1, 2015 the Neshannock Volant Dam base at the covered bridge will be stocked. Bob Horton reminded everyone about the club's 4th Annual Kid's Trout Derby on Saturday, April 25, 2015 for those ages 1-15. No membership is required. Registration at the clubhouse at 8 A.M. when a ticket will be given for door prizes to be called at 10 A.M. Lunch will be provided between 11-12 noon for participants and parents. Poles, reels and bait have been obtained. Chuck Bevington brought posters from the PA Game Commission that will be given away. Hats will be given to the participants. Members who will assist the children are Bob Horton, LeRoy Houk, Dennis Houk, Carol Dambach and Don Taylor. Tim Kelly announced a work day for the indoor range on March 14, 2015 at 8:30 A.M. The workers will build the back wall up. Bill Ely will wire later. Under old business, treasurer, Ray Beadling, gave the breakdown of the banquet's funds that were raised from the bucket raffle, 50/50 raffle, American Legion donated gun, ESB donated gun and the dinner reservations. Bob Horton thanked the gift collectors, club members who donated gifts, as well as LeRoy Houk for his guidance and help. The "Friends of the NRA" Banquet will be held at The New Englander in New Castle on Saturday, March 21, 2015 with doors opening at 4:30 P.M. and dinner at 6:00 P.M. Bill Boots made a motion for the club to buy a "Patriot Table" for 8 dinners, second by Ray Rava (motion passed). Directors willing to attend are Ray Beadling, Beverly Capezio, Ray Rava, Paul Aiken, Bill Boots, Carl Custozzo, Janice Greathouse and Chuck Bevington. Paul Aiken said that bucket raffle tickets can be preordered. New members and sponsors are Tim Klingensmith (Carmen Bucci), Levis Curry, Jr., (Levis Curry, Sr.) and James Everett/daughter Lexi, age 11 (Janice Greathouse) - motion passed. Randy Pilarsik announced that Paul Aiken was nominated for "Instructor of the Year" in the Hunter/Trapper Education section. He will be teaching a "Bowhunter"" class at our club on August 22, 2015 and a "Cable restraint" class on September 19, 2015. Butler County has 27 classes scheduled. Gamelands must have tags on treestands. The April committee meeting will determine how licenses will be used by mentors. Regis Senko is now in charge of the PA Hunter/Trapper Education classes. Bill Boots read positive comments about Paul Aiken as a Hunter/Trapper Education instructor. The 1st spring turkey shoot that was held on March 3, 2015 had 5 rounds shot. According to the Wayne Twp. ordinance, guns can't be shot or discharged in certain areas. Club members Tootie Welsh and Ron Aiken attend the Wayne Twp. meetings. Randy Pilarcik said the problem came from shooting a squirrel that was chewing wires on a tractor (neighbor dispute). Tim Klingensmith won the evening's door prize. Levis Curry, Sr. made a motion to adjourn the evening's meeting with a second by Beverly Capizio. (motion passed). The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 P.M.

Remember that the "Laurel Sportsman's Night Out" held at Laurel High School on Route 108 (across from the Lawrence County Fair Grounds) will be on Friday, February 27, 2015 with doors opening at 5:30 P.M. Our club received a special invitation from State Representative Daryl Metcalfe to attend the "10th Annual Second Amendment Action Day" that will be held on the front steps of the State Capitol in Harrisburg, PA on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 beginning at 10:00 A.M. This event is open to the public - more details will follow at a later date.

Carol Dambach, Lawrence County Council Delegate, read the minutes from the January 15, 2015

meeting which included a report of the "Draw Down" dinner held on January 31, 2015 at the Shenango V.F.D. hall. Carol's number was below the winner, so she won $250, Tim & Andy Kelly were in the final 5 numbers, so they won $100 each and Andy had the final number, so he won the Grand Prize of $500. They were given a round of applause from the members. The "Laurel Sportsman's Night Out" will be held at Laurel High School on Friday, February 27, 2015 with doors opening at 5:30 P.M. Our refuse company, Valley Waste, reminded us that no electronics may be placed in our container, otherwise the contract will be terminated. Director DIck Bayer announced that "Best Buy" will accept 3 computer items @ day for NO CHARGE; "Staples" in New Castle & Hermitage will take back 6 computer items @ day for NO CHARGE because these companies have to take back the same weight as they sell @ year. These opportunities are open to the public and will save people from being fined for improperly disposing of computer items. Our club's Annual Banquet will be held at the Wurtemburg/Perry V.F.D. hall this year on Saturday, February 28, 2015 with doors opening at 4:30 P.M. and the dinner beginning promptly at 6:00 P.M. Dinner selections are braised steak and stuffed chicken breast at $15 @ dinner. Reservations are due by Thursday, February 12th and checks can be mailed in care of the "Ellwood/Wampum Rod & Gun Club", P.O. Box 442, Ellwood City, PA 16117.

ESB Bank will donate a Savage .17 rimfire super mag. w/ swivels, sling and a box of shells for our banquet. The American Legion will also donate a gun that will be raffled as a thank you for the use of our clubhouse for their monthly meetings. Jonathan Greathouse has donated a gun to be given in a drawing for youth ages 11-16. Special thanks are extended to those businesses/individuals who have donated items for our door prizes. Bob Horton and LeRoy Houk are in charge of collecting the prizes this year. Ray Beadling and Beverly (Peach) Capezio will make the program for the banquet. Janice Greathouse is collecting the money/reservations. Set-up will be at the fire hall at 9:00 A.M. the morning of the banquet instead of the evening before. 1st Vice President, Tim Kelly, announced work days on Wed. Feb. 11, 2015 beginning at 8:30 A.M. and Sat. Feb. 21, 2015 at 8:30 A.M. for work on the indoor range. N.R.A. Executive Officer, Paul Aiken, announced a "Bowhunter" class on Aug. 22, 2015 and a "Cable Restraint" class that will be held at our club. Additional information can be obtained on the PA Game Commission website under the "Education" tab. Carl Custozzo purchased hams for our club's Spring Turkey Shoots that will be held each Tuesday at 6:30 P.M. from March 3 - April 14, 2015. These shoots are open to the public. Ray Beadling said that 35 memberships were renewed at the clubhouse on February 7 & 8. The next membership renewal opportunity will be at the club's Annual Banquet on February 28, 2015 from 4:30 - 5:30 P.M. Kenny Mason, representing the Laurel Conservation Club, requested a donation from our club for the "Laurel Sportsman's Night Out" on February 27, 2015. Andy Kelly was the winner of the evening's door prize. Ray Beadling made a motion to adjourn the meeting with a second by Don Minteer. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 P.M.

Our new club president, Jack Hunter, called the monthly meeting to order by leading those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance. Recording Secretary, Janice Greathouse, read the minutes from the December 8, 2014 meeting which were approved by the members in attendance. Carol Dambach, Lawrence County Council Delegate, read the minutes from the December 18, 2014 meeting which was held at our club. The information included Byron Gibbs reminding those who were present that seedlings are available for sale online. Cascade Park has "no fishing" signs posted because of liability. The Lawrence County "Youth Field Day" that was held in August 2014 had 210 youth participants. Bob Miles announced that there will be a special meeting of the Lawrence County Council delegates at "Hugger Mugger" in the Lawrence Village Plaza in Shenango Twp. on January 7, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. to discuss final plans for the annual fundraiser "Draw Down" dinner that will be held at the Shenango V.F.D. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 with doors opening at 4:00 P.M. Two Laurel High School representatives from the Laurel Conservation Club passed out flyers advertising the 30th Annual "Laurel Sportsman's Night Out" that will be held at Laurel High School on Friday, February 27, 2015 with doors opening at 5:30 P.M. This year, guest speakers will be The Benoit Brothers as well as Shawn Kotchey of Millcreek Valley Game Calls. At the Ellwood/Wampum club meeting, it was announced that the American Legion will sell tickets at our club's annual banquet for either a .17 or .22 cal. gun that they will donate. The Ellwood/Wampum Rod & Gun Club's Annual Banquet will be held at the Wurtemburg/Perry V.F.D. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 with doors opening at 4:30 P.M. PLEASE note the earlier date and change of venue this year - ALL reservations are due by Thursday, February 12, 2015 with enumeration. Meals are $15 each with selections of either braised steak or stuffed chicken breast dinners. Checks may be made to "Ellwood/Wampum Rod & Gun Club" and mailed to the club in care of P.O. Box 442, Ellwood City, PA 16117. Bob Horton brought to the members' attention that Jonathan Greathouse has donated a gun for youth who are present at the banquet for the last 3 years. This year the drawing will be for those who are ages 11-16. LeRoy Houk is assisting Bob with donations this year and had letterhead stationery printed for those who need proof for donations. LeRoy also reminded everyone that Janice Greathouse should receive all banquet reservations in a timely fashion with enumeration. February 9, 2015 will be the last meeting date before the reservations are due. New 1st Vice President, Tim Kelly, announced that there will be a workday at the club on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 8:30 A.M. for the back room of the indoor range. Ray Beadling made a reservation request for a pistol class on March 14, 2015 which will depend on the availability of the range. Our new Range Officer is Steve Keener. John Ipollito, Christopher Titus and Kathy Clover made requests for club membership (all 3 were approved by the Directors who were present). It was announced that the National Turkey Federation will hold a fundraising dinner at the Shenango V.F.D. on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 5:00 P.M. with $35 @ ticket. Ray Rava pointed out that our PA state flag needs to be replaced on the flagpole - he will request a new one. The winner of the evening's door prize was Dallas Parr. Jim Dambach made a motion to adjourn the meeting with a second by Levis Curry. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M.

SAFE BOATING COURSE OFFERED:

Boy Scout Troop #806 and the New Castle Power Squadron are offering the "Boating Is Fun" course from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. on February 7, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, 416 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, PA. Those attending are asked to use the door off Fifth Street. The certificate earned through the U.S. Power Squadron is good in any state. There is no charge for the course.
